PASSIVE IR IDENTIFICATION PATCH
CI Defence Passive
IR Identification Patches are Velcro backed,
25mm square patches of near IR reflective
material. The patches can be applied to uniforms
and vehicles as a passive means of Combat
Identification. When illuminated with a near IR
source eg. laser or searchlight, a suitably
equipped observer (night vision or other IR
sensitive device) co-located with the light
source will see a very strong reflection (glint)
from the patch. Observers located more than 5
degrees off axis of the light source will not
see any effect other than general illumination.
The device has an acceptance angle of 150
degrees. No power source is required. An adhesive
backed Velcro swatch is supplied for the
mounting of the patch to the required location.
Maximum angle of
return approx. 10 degrees. Observer outside this
cone will not see any return.
Ideal viewing point co-located with light
source.
