Project Description

This spectacular bridge crosses the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. LUDs were installed to replace existing "wind shoes" on the side span piers, to limit movement which can cause fatigue effects to develop in the suspension cable hangers.

CI worked with the client and engineer to develop a detailed LUD specification to provide a solution that will prove highly cost-effective over the life-time of the bridge. Two 750kN LUDs were installed at each side span pier to limit the movements generated by wind and vehicle traction and braking.
