Project Description

The Tay Rail bridge was constructed in 1887 and at 3135 metres is the longest railway bridge in the UK. The bridge is vital link connecting the main Edinburgh to London line with Dundee and Aberdeen.

CI were awarded the contract to supply 16 No. LUDs, which were specified by the consultant as a cost-effective method of reducing braking and traction forces on the fixed piers. The inclusion of CI LUDs achieves this by transferring load on to the adjacent spans.

This is part of a major bridge refurbishment programme and the LUDs will ensure that the Tay Rail bridge will be able to withstand the loads imposed by modern trains. CI also supplied LUDs for the adjacent Tay Road Bridge in 1994.
