This bridge provides access to the prestigious Chicago Beach Hotel Development. In addition to traffic the composite structure carries all services to the development. The inclusion of four lock-up devices located at the mainland abutment allowed the designers to achieve their objective of minimising displacement of the structure under seismic conditions.

The abutment forms part of the main service plant room so a novel LUD arrangement was required. This involved the LUDs being constructed with a long extension arm and the abutment bracket being installed to the plant room roof.
