This project provided a major highway link between Thailand and Laos across the Mekong River. The bridge is a multispan continuous viaduct and LUDs were used to reduce the earthquake forces at the fixed pier.

Six 750 kN LUDs were installed in the free pier adjacent to the fixed pier to effectively reduce the forces in the fixed pier by 50%. This allowed the designer to maintain the regular pier section and minimise construction costs.
