Project Description

The Korean High Speed Railway provides an express link between the capital city Seoul and the southern sea port of Pusan, a distance of 350km. CI have supplied over 500 LUDs to the first stage of the project, a 60km test track section. This is the largest LUD contract ever awarded. The key reasons for KHRC choosing to use the CI LUD are:

  • CI LUDs provide a cost effective method of transferring the very large train braking forces throughout the bridge structures limiting pier deflections and foundation contact stresses.

  • The CI LUD is easily installed during construction of the structure, preventing delays to the construction sequence.

  • Minimal maintenance is required to the LUD after installation and throughout the life of the bridge.

  • The CI LUD has passed the rigorous test specification set by SYSTRA, the French high speed rail consultants.

  • CI Ltd. has the experience, expertise and manufacturing capability to supply both the quantity and quality of product required by KHRC.

The LUDs supplied for this project were installed in two ways; between adjoining deck sections and also in the approaches to stations, between the deck and the pier.
